Where Ancestors Dream

The composition presents a bustling scene layered in horizontal registers, suggesting a village or marketplace viewed from a distance. In the foreground, a decorative black band with golden circular patterns creates a border, perhaps representing a decorated wall or textile. Above this, small blue animal figures resembling cats or dogs populate the lower section. The middle ground is alive with abstracted human figures rendered in thick impasto strokes - faces with simplified features in yellows, greens, and earth tones stand amid vertical forms suggesting bodies or doorways. Red brick-like patterns frame the scene on both sides like architectural columns or walls. In the background, silhouettes of distant figures line a golden-yellow horizon beneath a pale turquoise sky streaked with white clouds. The artwork evokes a sense of ancestral memory and communal life through its warm, earthy palette punctuated by vivid accents. Golden yellows, burnt oranges, olive greens, and rich browns dominate the central composition, suggesting sun-baked earth and weathered adobe. The turquoise sky and blue animal forms provide cooling counterpoints, while the red brick framing grounds the scene in architectural solidity. The painting symbolizes the continuity between past and present, with ghostly ancestor figures watching over daily village life. The overall atmosphere is one of vibrant community, layered history, and the dreamlike quality of collective memory where animals, humans, and spirits coexist in a timeless space.
