Bodies of the Valley

The composition presents a bustling urban valley scene dominated by a magnificent bird figure with outstretched wings spanning the width of the canvas. A small human figure rides atop the bird, while a red circular sun or celestial symbol hovers above. The bird's body is rendered in rich browns, creams, and blacks with intricate patterning on its feathers. Below, a cityscape of rectangular buildings in muted beiges, tans, and browns rises with small figures visible in windows and on rooftops. Snow-capped mountains in soft purples and whites form the backdrop on the right, while a tall tower structure stands sentinel on the left. At the bottom, a crowd of simplified human figures in various colors gathers along what appears to be a street or promenade, their round heads and simple bodies creating a rhythm of community presence. The artwork evokes a sense of mythic wonder and collective aspiration through its warm earth tones punctuated by the dramatic dark bird figure. The image speaks to themes of freedom, transcendence, and the relationship between humanity and nature within urban spaces. The rider on the great bird suggests a shamanic journey or spiritual liberation rising above the everyday concerns of the city dwellers below. The gathering crowd below seems to witness this magical occurrence with quiet acceptance, suggesting a culture where the miraculous and mundane coexist. The overall atmosphere is one of hopeful mythology, where ancient symbols of flight and transformation persist within modern landscapes.
